Introduction to Landscape Painting with Acrylic Paint

Gualala Arts is pleased to present “Introduction to Landscape Painting with Acrylic Paint” with instructor Marty Kitzel. The cost of the workshop is $70 for Gualala Arts Members, and $100 for Non-Members, for sign-up information contact Kendra at Kendra@GualalaArts.org. All proceeds from this workshop are a fundraiser for Gualala Arts.

This course will be focused on fundamentals and technical knowledge. Both methods of working in both light to dark and dark to light, opaquely and translucently will be demonstrated with a working section in each session. Demonstrations will include a basic how-to for mixing colors and creating a composition.

Instructor Marty Kitzel is retired from the construction industry but always kept drawing and painting in his spare time, taking on various projects from album art, to sign painting, to furniture design and portraiture. Marty divides his time between Gualala and Sonoma Valley, drawing, painting, and gardening. He also has extensive education in painting, and printmaking while studying at St. Bonaventure University, Buffalo State College, and earned a degree in illustration from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco.

Point Arena Third Thursday Poetry & Jazz

The Third Thursday Poetry & Jazz Reading Series will feature Willits poet Mike A’Dair. The reading will take place at Think Visual, at 240 Main Street (next door to Roots Herbal Apothecary) in downtown Point Arena. The reading will begin with live improv jazz, followed by a featured reading with the musicians accompanying A’Dair, then an open mic with jazz improv, and finally, the reading will conclude with more live improv jazz. Poets, storytellers, and musicians welcome. Third Thursday Poetry & Jazz is supported by The Third Thursday Poetry Group, many anonymous donors, and Poets & Writers, Inc.

Class: Weft-faced Rug Weaving with a Bit of Color Theory With Nancy Kennedy

Class Description: Students will weave a sample in summer and winter weave structure of in plain weave. Each student will select one color to use as an accent against three or four other colors. Card woven selvedges and hemming techniques are optional.

We are happy to announce our 2024 Olivino Pruning Class which will be held on Saturday, March 23rd.
Take advantage of our professional presenters’ years of experience in olive orchard management. Topics will range from pruning techniques to water management and nutrient deficiencies.
Any and all topics are up for discussion.
The class will include theory and a hands-on portion where you can apply your newly acquired skills. We encourage you to bring your pruning gear.
Portions of the class will also be held in Spanish!
Tickets are $95 which includes instruction, lunch and olive oil tasting

Attendance is limited and tickets will be sold on a first come first serve basis.

Farmstead Fodder: Just Kidding

Pennyroyal Farm’s in-depth estate tour series, Farmstead Fodder covers our most requested topics on dairy, creamery, animal husbandry, regenerative farming, and culinary gardening. Each tour will conclude with a short thematic seminar and a cheese tasting and wine flight (adults 21+) or juice for youth and non-drinkers.

“Just Kidding” is a special barn tour hosted by herd manager and head cheesemaker Erika Mckenzie-Chapter featuring our newest members of the farm plus a tasting of our springtime cheeses. The March 23 tour is open to all ages and the March 30 will be a family version, better suited for younger children. All children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult supervisor. Farm to Table members receive priority booking and discounted pricing!

Nathaniel Smith and the History of African Americans in California

Join the Kelley House Museum and two special guest speakers for an in-depth discussion of the life of Nathaniel Smith, the first African American to settle on the Mendocino Coast in the 1850s. Susan Anderson, Curator at the California African American Museum will offer insight into the history of California’s treatment of people of color, while Guest Curator Alexander Wood shares his research into Smith’s life. The Real Sarahs & Alex de Grassi Album Release Show

A celebration of the long-awaited collaborative album from acclaimed local harmony singer/songwriters The Real Sarahs and internationally renowned, Grammy nominated, guitarist Alex de Grassi. They will be joined by an all-star band including David Hayes (Van Morrison), Kirk Harwood (Norton Buffalo), and Robin Zickle.

The album will be available at the show in advance of it’s digital release.
